Rylan Knight was recently recognized by Varnum High School as a Keystone Kid with Courage. A Keystone Kid with Courage displays courage, bravery, kindness, and inspiration to those around them. Rylan, a senior, was chosen based on his positive attitude, bravery, and compassion.

Rylan is often seen walking the school halls giving students and teachers high fives and asking, “How are you doing?” Although he faces many obstacles, Rylan has shown perseverance by working daily to overcome them. He helps clean the cafeteria after breakfast and lunch and takes out the trash and vacuums two classrooms every day to help the custodians.

Rylan recently took some time out of his school day to sit down with Keystone employee, Stacy Lee, to talk about what it means to be courageous.

Rylan believes courage is “Being brave.”

He also told Stacy that the most courageous person they know is his Nana, who takes care of Rylan and his sister.

Some of the most courageous representations out there are superheroes, and people of all ages can recognize the courage these iconic figures represent. When we asked Rylan, who was the most courageous superhero, he responded with Iron Man.

If it’s being courageous in the classroom or at home, all superheroes need fuel to keep them going. Rylan’s favorite thing to eat at school is chicken alfredo, and he also loves having breakfast food at lunchtime.

Rylan encourages his classmates to be courageous by trying new things. He believes we need to be brave to succeed in life.
